My brother, the Green Beret ...

 ... portrayed here by John Wayne -- the fattest Green Beret in the history of the service -- holds a relatively dim view of Marines.  Nonetheless, attention must be paid.  It's the 238th birthday of the Corps.

Here's a picture of my Uncle Hugh ...

... a Marine captain who slogged through Guadalcanal and who knows how many other shitholes and who was both interviewed for, and was portrayed in, the HBO mini-series The Pacific.  Sadly, his appearance in the interview was posthumous, seeing airtime about six months after he died.  This is from the closing credits.
