Now THIS is cool

Here's a portrait of J.E.B. Stuart, famous Confederate cavalry officer.  Given it's Civil War-era provenance, it is likely a tin-type (a laborious wet-plate photographic process that has since been replaced by iPhones and Flickr and such).

Here's a tin-type image from Afghanistan ...

Wow.

A series of photos done by Airman Ed Drew, the thinking being that there might be some value to chronicling this most modern of wars using the least modern of photographic techniques.  Read the whole story and see numerous similar images in The Daily Beast here.
