Go Cards

The Catholic University women's lacrosse team vanquished an opponent for the ninth time this season (as opposed to being the vanquishee a mere three) with no less a celebrity than my daughter Meaghan sporting the same Number Eleven that I wore in the 70s and 80s while playing for the Knicks (in my dreams) and clocking 35+ minutes. The score was 22-11, which probably has some numerological import.

Me? It was just fun to watch the girl play.

And, despite the score, a bit touch-and-go at times, given that the Cards were playing, for some period of time, one or two players down. This resulting from a cascade of yellow cards from the referees, none of which was directed at Miss Gracie. Billy Joel's suggestion that Catholic girls start much too late notwithstanding, the Cardinals began bludgeoning their opponents early and often.

Good for them.

My second favorite Card, Jackie, notched a couple of goals. And my third favorite Card, known only as Number Four, also tucked a ball in the net.

So other than the near-freezing (or so it felt) temperatures, life, for that one brief moment, was sweet.

I am, of course, reminded of the following lyrics:

Don't let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
For one brief shining moment that was known
As Camelot.
