Quick Note on the Knickerbockers

I clicked on an article titled The NBA's 7 Most Overpaid Players a little earlier today.  I did so somewhat against my will (the way one sometimes clicks on things on the internet that we probably shouldn't), thinking that I really wasn't in the mood to read one more article bashing Amar'e Stoudemire.  And lo and behold, according to no less an authority than Wall Street Cheat Sheet (which is a click-generating machine and not really an authority on anything -- and certainly not on basketball), he's not even on the list.

Truth be told, Amar'e had a bit of a resurgence last year.  And this year is the last of his contract, which makes him valuable for different, purely financial reasons.  I'm looking forward to seeing how he plays this year in the triangle.  I bet he does better than expected.

Me?  I'm fond of the guy.  There was a moment a couple of years ago when nobody wanted to play for the Knicks.  And then Amar'e arrived (granted with his maxed-out contract and uninsurable knees) and for a while they were really fun to watch (more fun, in fact, than the 56 win season of two years ago because Carmelo doesn't make the team fun to watch, only himself).  Then the mouth-breathing knucklehead James Dolan made Donnie Walsh eviscerate the team to acquire Carmelo when, if he'd just stood pat and showed a bit of guts, they could have had him for either a lot less or nothing at all.  But let's not talk about that anymore tonight.  It will just upset me.

It should be noted that if you like basketball in a certain way, Carmelo Anthony is unbelievably fun to watch.

It should also be noted that Linsanity, which was really fun to watch, happened while Carmelo was on the disabled list and Amar'e was on the floor.

It should further be noted that the #2 most over paid player in the NBA, according to the list, is Andrea Bargnani.  A man whose game I hold in such low regard that I'm not even going to google him to find out how to spell either his first or last name.

So we are not out of the woods.  Here's a picture of Amar'e's tear tattoo ...

Brief personal aside:  The Uninsurable Knees would be a great name for a band.  Better than Weezer, surely.  Or Vampire Weekend, if I've got that right.
