The Green and The Blue
What's wrong with this picture?
Hess is sponsoring Giants games? Is nothing sacred?
Just so we're clear, Leon Hess used to own the Jets. The poor man must be rolling over in his grave. If you're the kind of person who believes in signs from God, then surely this is a sign from God that the Jets are going to have a better season than the Giants. If you're polytheistic, then it's a sign from the Football Gods. Either way, there are things you just don't do.
Signing Deion Sanders to play cornerback for the Washington Red Sox (I've changed their name for them, since they refuse to do so) jumps to mind. Some things are just not right, and the lousy karma from that excruciating moment in football history haunts the Washington Red Sox like trading Babe Ruth haunted the Boston Red Sox for a hundred years.
Further on the subject, there's an absolutely scathing article about Sanders in today's NYT. Something about his failed attempt to create a scholastic sports powerhouse out of some charter school in Texas. Very odd. Read it here. Guaranteed to make you think less of the man, if that's possible.
I'm not saying the man couldn't play cover defense, but what a clown he turned into as an analyst. Watching the game last night I thought of him and thought what a pleasure each Sunday without Deion Sanders on television is.
